To meet this need, Ming Chuan University (MCU) established the Department of Urban Planning and Disaster Management in 2002, which is now known as the Department of Urban Design and Sustainable Development. We welcome a new cohort of students to our undergraduate, graduate, professional master's, and doctoral degree programs each year.

Our department stands out for its specialized focus on urban planning, urban design, sustainable development, and disaster management. Through an emphasis on diverse professional training and the use of an extensive array of digital resources and innovative teaching methods, we equip students with expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), regional disaster and rescue planning, disaster mitigation, disaster prevention and response system management, urban planning and design, community development, and environmental planning. Consequently, our graduates are highly sought after in both public and private sectors. They can sit for civil service examinations for roles such as Urban Planner, Land Policy Administrator, Fire Control Technician, Real Estate Appraiser, and Community Planner.

We understand the growing demand for skilled professionals in these fields and encourage our students to critically engage with the complex challenges involved in disaster management, urban planning and design, and sustainable development. Our ultimate aim is to foster positive environmental change and contribute to the well-being of local communities and Taiwanese society. If your aspirations align with ours, we invite you to join us! Please note, however, that our lectures are predominantly conducted in Chinese, so a high level of proficiency in Chinese-language proficiency is required.

Best wishes,

Lin Wen-Yen,

Professor and Chair

Dept. of Urban Design and Sustainable Development, Ming Chuan University

In response to global climate change and the rising frequency of extreme weather events worldwide, there has been a growing need for higher education institutions in Taiwan to cultivate highly skilled professionals in urban planning and disaster management.
